This site endeavours to provide some basic information about radar entomology, a comprehensive address list of everyone working in the field, a comprehensive bibliography, and links to other sites containing information on the technique and its applications. Some historical material has also been included.
It is recognised that some parts of this site are no longer up to date, and therefore some links to outside websites may no longer work. An attempt is made to keep the bibliography and the address list current.

TREWS is hosted within the School of Physical, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences (PEMS) of The University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA). It is a "personal page" of Dr V.A. Drake of the School of PEMS and forms part of his research. |
Radar
Entomology - an Introduction describes how radar is used to study insect flight and
migration. There are sections on theory and phenomena,
on the history of the technique and its application (including
a comprehensive list of field studies with species, location, and references to
any resulting publications), on current projects and developments,
and on possible future developments. There are also collections
of photographs of past and present entomological radars and
of images of radar displays showing echoes from insects.
The
Radar Entomology Web Directory contains links to other sites on radar entomology.
The main
application of entomological radars is for studying insect migration, especially of species that are pests. The
TREWS Insect
Migration page links to sites describing current research projects on insect population movements. Radar is now also being used to
study foraging flights.

Questions
and Answers contains extracts from correspondence with TREWS
users. There are discussions on a variety of topics relating to both radar entomology
and insect migration.
The
Radar Entomology On-line Bibliography is a comprehensive listing of the scientific literature of
radar entomology.
Who's
Who in Radar Entomology lists all the individuals and institutions involved in developing
or applying radar technology to the study of insects. It incorporates ...

Note: TREWS pages have been designed to be viewed with a browser window ~640 pixels wide, i.e. full-screen on a 640×480 VGA display but less than full screen on current higher-resolution displays. The background on this page should show a "270" at left and a "90" at right, and should not repeat horizontally. If viewed at other widths, layout of pages etc. may be degraded.
The background of this page is a plan-position indicator (PPI) image of insect migration in Australia, made with the CSIRO Entomological Radar.
